Broward GOP Chairman DeNapoli Allows Democrat to Speak at GOP Club Meeting

The trainwreck that is the Broward Republican Executive Committee (BREC) and its acolytes continues to  unfold before our very eyes. On Tuesday, the newly-named South Broward Republican Club, formerly known as the Greater Hollywood Republican club and the Southeast Republican Club held a meeting in which it invited Democrat speaker Dania City Commissioner Walter Duke. Duke was originally slated to speak about the Fort Lauderdale airport expansion during the meeting, but when Chairman DeNapoli caught wind of this breach … Continue Reading

Sunshine GOP Club President Hearts Hillary Clinton?

March 31, 2011 Broward County 10 Comments

Sunshine Republican Club President Nick Stone (pictured) has some very confusing political inclinations. Stone recently took over the Sunshine Republican Club from former President Ben Bullard after Broward Republican Executive Committee (BREC) Chairman Richard DeNapoli told Bullard that the club’s charter would not be renewed if he were to stay on as President,  prompting Bullard to file an official RPOF grievance on the matter. But Stone, a recovering liberal Democrat, may be unfortunately having a relapse.

On his Facebook page, Stone recently stated his admiration for Democrat standard bearer and GOP nemesis Hillary Clinton stating, “I seriously worship Hillary. She is the biggest gangsta I know”. He also added, ” if she could have held on to her superdelegates and raked in more dough, she could have taken it from Barry, FML” (Vulgar acronym) This is true, Hillary could have beaten ol’ Barry, but to say that you worship Hillary while being in a GOP leadership role raises questions.

Stone, a huge supporter of Governor Charlie Crist during the 2010 GOP Primary season, needs to provide some clarification to his club’s members and to the BREC at large. How much does he really admire and agree with the policies of Hillary Clinton? Is it really appropriate that a President of a Broward-based GOP organization express such a fondness for Hillary Clinton? If Stone is serious about his admiration for his past political love, should he have merited any consideration at all for any committee appointments, let alone leadership positions by Chairman DeNapoli? If Stone has indeed rekindled his infatuation with Hillary Clinton, perhaps it’s more appropriate that he does so with Mitch Caesar’s blessing rather than Richard DeNapoli’s.

Formal Grievance Filed with RPOF Against Broward GOP Boss DeNapoli

After the January 31st meeting of the Broward Republican Executive Committee (BREC) in which Chairman Richard Lee DeNapoli singled out certain members of the press and banned videotaping of its meetings, the BREC is now trying to clean up its image around the state, but it will undoubtedly continue to draw more scrutiny from its members and the media as it pertains to the organization’s lack of transparency and its questionable dealings.  Below is a scanned copy of a recent grievance complaint that was filed with the Republican Party of Florida, citing Chairman DeNapoli’s actions at that meeting as the reason for the complaint.

Several local media outlets have also reported the incident, including the Shark Tank:

There’s a Sheriff in Town – Al Lamberti

Broward County’s top law enforcement officer, Sheriff Al Lamberti, made an appearance at  the grand opening of Congressman Allen West’s Broward congressional office on Tuesday night. Lamberti acknowledged Congressman West’s victory in November, and he gave his thoughts on what he believes are the right reasons for running for public office.  Sheriff Lamberti was appointed Sheriff several years back to fill the void that was left after disgraced Sheriff Jenne was ousted from the position. In 2008, Lamberti won a spirited and contentious race against former Republican turned Democrat Chief Scott Israel.

GOP is Officially the “Third Party” in Broward County

January 27, 2011 Broward County No Comments

by Javier Manjarres

In what amounts to an embarrassing piece of news for the Republican Party in Florida, the number of people in Broward County registered as Republicans now trails both Registered Democrats AND Registered Independents.  Broward Republicans now trail that highly organized political party, affectionately known as “Other” by close to 1000 votes. See results taken as of 27 Jan 11 from the Broward SOE. In early December 2010, the Republican party had only 50 more registered voters than “other”.

Unfortunately, this result for the Republican party is the culmination of a of lack of outreach and voter registration efforts in the county for years, and there is no way to spin this positively, only to say that this trend needs to be turned around immediately. The Republican Party of Florida (RPOF) is struggling with a 700,000+ voter registration deficit to the Democrat Party.

Jay Narrang, the President of the largest Republican club in Broward County, Southwest Broward Republican Organization(SWBRO), has been leading the the efforts in his area of the county to help stem the Democrat voter registration tide:

“SWBRO’s Committee Chairs are now working towards developing their Project Plans for this year and will present an outline to the membership on Feb 7th.  Once the plans are ready we will look to partner with organizations such as AnyStreet to aggressively pursue registration efforts. We are aware that Ms. Von Hohenzollern is working on such an initiative and we plan on discussing partnered drives towards this goal.”

Anystreet is a national grassroots organization that has recently focused it’s efforts on voter outreach and registration in the the state of Florida. With the assistance of State Committeeman and 2nd Amendment crusader Bill Bunting of Pasco County, Anystreet has managed to position  it’s voter registration efforts  all of the local gun shows in south Florida, especially focusing on the Fort Lauderdale Gun Show.

How much of an impact could this voter disparity could make on the 2012 elections remains to be seen, as Florida will once again become a battleground state for many key re-election bids as well as a critical state for Republicans if they are to win back the White House.

Possible Forensic Audit of Broward GOP Looms Over Monthly Meeting

January 26, 2011 Broward County 12 Comments

More surprises could be in store for attendees of next week’s Broward Republican Executive Committee (BREC) monthly meeting, where there is significant chatter amongst BREC members about a possible motion to vote for a forensic audit of the committee’s financial records. The potential motion comes in the wake of a $4000 donation last October to then candidate Chip LaMarca by the BREC, which failed to report the transaction in their bookkeeping.  The Treasurer at the time was Richard Lee DeNapoli, the current Chairman of the BREC. Read the rest of the story here- Credibility, Competence Still MIA at the BREC

Chairman DeNapoli addressed the Committee and pledged to let members of the BREC and guests voice their opinions, concerns, and ideas in a open forum at the end of every meeting. This meeting will be the first one DeNapoli conducts as Chairman, but many believe that he will go back on his many promises, starting with the open forum pledge.

Governor Rick Scott to Attend $30,000 Fundraising Event To Benefit Broward GOP

January 22, 2011 Broward County 8 Comments

by Javier Manjarres

Governor Rick Scott will be attending a private $30,000 ’roundtable’  fundraiser in Broward County to benefit the local Republican Party headed by Chairman Richard Lee DeNapoli. At an Investor’s Dinner sponsored by the Council of Elite Women Entrepreneurs in Fort Lauderdale, the Broward GOP (BREC) announced the fundraising event to a room of about 150 patrons in attendance. After the round of keynote speakers was finished, the heads of the local Republican Party stated that the event with the Governor had been arranged, and that it would take place within a month or so, but a firm date for the event  was not set. … Continue Reading

Credibility, Competence Still MIA at the BREC

The Shark Tank continues to keep tabs on the questionable actions taken by the former Treasurer and now Chairman of the Broward Republican Executive Committee (BREC), Richard DeNapoli.  The BREC elections were held on December 6, 2010, and it was discovered on that same day the BREC failed to disclose a $4000 donation it made to the campaign account of now Broward County Commissioner Charles ‘Chip’ LaMarca on October 28, 2008. In his 2010 G-4 campaign finance report, LaMarca posted the $4000 donation from the BREC, whereas DeNapoli, the Committee’s Treasurer at the time, did not. … Continue Reading

DeNapoli Wins Chair, Day of RECkoning Approaches for Broward GOP

December 7, 2010 Broward County No Comments

by Javier Manjarres

The highly anticipated vote for Chairman at the Broward GOP took place last night with all of the expected shenanigans and unruliness that have become the norm for BREC meetings. From extra votes being counted (five votes came out of nowhere after the first ballot vote had been counted); to motions for the floor not being acknowledged, even some home baked cookies to ‘influence’ some votes, at the end of the evening, Richard Lee DeNapoli won by a mere 4 votes -the win came on the second ballot of the night for Chairman. This vote total speaks volumes as to how disliked DeNapoli is and how divided the BREC is. One big difference between Commissioner Chip LaMarca and Richard DeNapoli is clear here-  whereas LaMarca was disliked but tolerated, DeNapoli is despised and intolerable to many.  DeNapoli is known throughout Broward conservative circles for his heckling of now Senator-elect Marco Rubio during the last election cycle,  his over-the-top support of Governor Charlie Crist, and the unapologetic condescending way he addresses grassroots activists-RPOF members beware!

In other noteworthy news from the event, Cindy Guerra, the outgoing Chairman, did not bother acknowledge to Rick Scott as our new Governor-  a ST Hat tip goes to Levi Williams, Sheela Venero, and the rest of the Rick Scott team.

With DeNapoli now at the helm, these challenges for the BREC may be insurmountable.  Without an enthusiastic and growing membership, the BREC will not be able to dig itself out of a big financial hole or garner any kind of grassroots support.  DeNapoli is already driving the BREC straight into a ditch, and this will not bode well for many future Republican conservative candidates, as DeNapoli is a long-time and self proclaimed moderate.  The Conservative grassroots base will pick and choose the candidates who they will support, not who BREC tells them to.  The days of the BREC as a relevant political organization may be nearing an end.
